Pet Travel from the EU to Switzerland

A dog, cat or ferret travelling non-commercially from an EU Member State to Switzerland can normally use a qualifying EU pet passport. Vet Travel Docs offers a €12 check for one pet on a direct journey from any of the 27 EU Member States to Switzerland.

What the check covers

  • the EU passport issuer, passport number and recorded pet identity;
  • microchip and rabies-vaccination chronology;
  • minimum age, the primary-vaccination waiting period and vaccine validity on the proposed entry date;
  • owner or authorised-person travel and the five-day movement relationship; and
  • the customer-entered veterinary dates and identification details shown in the report matrix.

Swiss border and dog controls

Carry the original EU pet passport and present the pet and documents if Swiss customs or border officials require them. Switzerland prohibits importing dogs with docked ears or tails, subject to the authority’s stated exceptions, so owners must confirm that their dog is not within that prohibition before travel.

The check does not authenticate the physical passport, decide admission, confirm a carrier booking, or cover commercial sale, adoption, rehoming, multiple pets, unusual territories or a return journey.

If another person travels with the pet

An authorised person can accompany the pet under the non-commercial rules. The owner’s written authorisation and the required relationship between the owner’s movement and the pet’s movement must still be satisfied and carried as applicable.
