Pet Travel from Canada to Great Britain or the EU

Reviewed by Vet Travel Docs on 17 September 2026. Official requirements can change; the linked government sources remain authoritative.

Vet Travel Docs supports direct-air, non-commercial journeys for one personally owned dog, cat or ferret from Canada to Great Britain or any of the 27 EU Member States. The check costs US$15.

Canada to the European Union

The check covers microchip and rabies chronology, minimum age, the primary-vaccination waiting period, owner or authorised-person movement, first-entry country and certificate-language guidance. Canada is listed for the ordinary EU rabies-titre exemption, so a titre is not required solely because the journey starts in Canada. Dogs entering Finland, Ireland or Malta require tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before entry.

The current EU Animal Health Certificate must be completed by the appropriate veterinarian and endorsed by CFIA before departure. The actual arrival point and carrier must also be confirmed.

Canada to Great Britain

The check applies the Great Britain Pet Health Certificate requirements, including identification, rabies validity, owner-linked movement and the dog tapeworm rule. Vet Travel Docs does not issue the certificate or provide veterinary examination, signature or CFIA endorsement.

Non-commercial boundary

The pet must not be sold, adopted, rehomed or transferred to another owner. Breeder sales, breeding-stock transfers, rescue movements and other commercial exports require a different official process and are not covered.
