Pet Travel from Australia to the European Union

Reviewed by Vet Travel Docs on 17 September 2026. Official requirements can change; the linked government sources remain authoritative.

Vet Travel Docs supports an A$25 check for one personally owned dog, cat or ferret flying directly from Australia to any of the 27 EU Member States.

What the check covers

  • microchip and rabies-vaccination chronology;
  • minimum age and the primary-vaccination waiting period;
  • owner or authorised-person movement and the non-commercial declaration;
  • first-entry country and accepted certificate-language guidance;
  • dog tapeworm treatment for Finland, Ireland and Malta; and
  • the Australian veterinary completion and government-endorsement pathway.

Use the current EU non-commercial animal health certificate in English and an accepted language of the first-entry country. Vet Travel Docs checks the information but does not issue or endorse that certificate.

Non-commercial boundary

The pet must not be sold, adopted, rehomed or transferred to another owner. Breeder, rescue and other ownership-transfer movements use the commercial rules and are not covered.
